How much space for a home gym

Start with the lowest point in the room — ducts, lights, a detector — not the open joist. Write that number down in inches.

A rack listed at 90 in229 cm needs a 96 in244 cm (8 ft) ceiling if you want 6 in15.2 cm of air and a shot at pull-ups. A rack listed at 82 in208 cm is the 7 ft conversation, and it will still be tight for a 6 ft lifter on the bar.

The three checks

1. Frame height versus ceiling, plus 2 in5.1 cm to assemble. 2. Pull-up bar plus about 12 in30.5 cm (HAJEX). 3. Overhead press: height × 1.33 + 9 in22.9 cm for plates.

Run those on Will-It-Fit. Save the result. Product pages then show a fits-your-space badge from that input.

Footprint is not the bar

Makers publish the cage. A 49 in × 49 in124 cm × 124 cm frame still needs sleeve room. If the room is 8 × 10 ft, measure the walkway around the plates, not just the uprights.

Cardio

A folding treadmill shortens storage height. It does not shorten the belt while you run. Leave a dismount zone behind the deck.

How much ceiling do I need for a power rack?

At least the rack’s published height plus about 2 in5.1 cm to stand it up. Pull-ups need about a foot above the bar. Overhead press uses height × 1.33 + 9 in22.9 cm (HAJEX).

How much floor for a 7 ft bar?

The frame is not the bar. Add about 24 in61 cm past each upright for plates, more if you walk the bar out.
